View Full Version : need help quick,water leak 1995 z28 5.7..
z28lt1350 Sep 15th, 00, 05:48 AM hey guys,i was going to change my coolant yesterday.but when i pulled the car back,i got ready to drain the coolant.as soon as i got under the car,i saw water leaking.it was coming from the front of the car.i know i could see it dripping onto the pulley on the bottom.but it does it more when it is cold, and not hot.i woke up this morning, and i added more coolant this mornning.but when i added the coolant,it started leaking.but i just got to work, and know i don't see it leaking.could it be a hose, water pump or seal.im confused,i don't understand it.but if anybody can help me,i'll be a happy camper.thankyou from bino.
newport30 Sep 15th, 00, 07:57 AM It is more than likely a hose but could be just about anything. As you know heat expands things and cold contracts them, that is why you have the leak when cold and not when hot. You really need to find the source of the leak to determine what to do.
You could start by tightning all of the hose clamps. A good way to find the source of the leak is to put food coloring in the radiator to make it more obvious where the source is.
Good Luck,
Scott.
CA420 Sep 15th, 00, 11:40 AM Is it the crank pulley it is dripping on? If so check the weep hole on the pump or front seal of the pump. These are the locations that make it hard to trace.

Buckeye Sep 15th, 00, 03:28 PM Bino,
I just had the same problem on my 1995 Trans Am. In my case, it was the water pump. I would look the hoses/clamps over real good first, but I bet it's the water pump.
One word of caution. When mine leaked, it leaked down and affected the power steering. It was like it turned into manual steering all of a sudden. Not a good thing when you don't expect it.

palvey Sep 18th, 00, 01:18 PM Probably the water pump... get it fixed quick because your distributer will not ilke the coolant on it and will go out.
Mark W. Winning Sep 19th, 00, 04:54 AM Most Chevrolet water pumps have a "weep" hole in the bottom. When the internal seal fails, water is allowed past the water pump bearings and out this hole. The water pump will still work fine, but its bearing life wiull be short lived.

mbrekke Sep 19th, 00, 01:26 PM Man, $600 to replace a water pump! Whatever happened to the "good ol' days"? http://www.camaros.net/forum/eek.gif
The pricing on these scare me. My 94Z toasted a windshield wiper motor. It was still under an extended warranty and came it at about $400.00! Sometimes, looking under the hood is just too spooky... fuel, air and spark... oh my!
