I was checking my fuel filter today cuz my 86 IROC's been stalling out...unfortunately I managed to strip the fuel filter nut (the one that holds the fuel filter to the carb) and now I'm leaking gas like a you-know-what.

Anyway, does anyone know where the best place to get a replacement nut is? I know the nut's stripped...I can't tell if the carb-end threads are stripped...I may need to take it to a machine shop and get it re-tapped.

Mark most autoparts carry these nuts.Try to find one that has a HELP rack on display.As for the striped carb threads ,the nuts i am talking about are selfthreading and oversized much like oversized oilpan drainplugs.

I'd say the carb is stripped.
The nut is steel and the carb is zink-whatever- pot metal.

It's much more likely the carb is stripped.
You might be able to send it out to be repaired.

If you remove the fuel filter and use one elsewhere, you might be able to epoxy the fitting back in.
I'd check with an expert carb rebuilder.

OK I found one of those self-tapping nuts and it cut its own threads in the carb fitting...so it screwed in fine...thing is it seals externally and the original nut is designed to seal internally. I had to use a Neoprene O-ring along with the included gasket to make it hold.

Does anyone know if Neoprene is OK to use on a gas line? I know rubber will dissolve, but I'm pretty sure Neoprene is OK...anyone know for sure?

I wish someone made an OEM replacement for that carb...Edelbrock makes Q-Jets, but not computer controlled replacements.
