View Full Version : pics, Hotchkis versus "stock"
boodlefoof Sep 15th, 02, 01:01 PM Hey all,
I finally got some more updates to my page from my summer front subframe off resto project. To look at some big differences in ride height going from some "stock replacement springs" from Rick's to the Hotchkis 2'' dropped coils, check these out... I really like the Hotchkis stance. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

choptop Sep 15th, 02, 01:18 PM Sweet Boodlefoof! I like the Hotchkis results on every car I have seen them on.
Were you having leaning problems before the spring swap? I'm still wrestling with a leaning problem (actually something on the rear passenger side is "holding up" that side of the car). Everything I have tried is not making any difference, including a new subframe, swapping springs side to side etc. I'm getting ready to fabricate a lowering block for one side and be done with it!

zuma Sep 15th, 02, 02:34 PM boodlefoof, Nice cam, it's look much better lowered with the hotchkis... Choptop, I had the same problem with my 69, changed leaf springs, still same 1/2 to 3/4 lean higher on the pass. side, I checked right front spring, added a acorn helper on the driver side and "poof" the car was level (within 1/8 inch). I don't know if you checked this, but I just thought you might want to try it, before trying the lowering block.. good luck...Mike

boodlefoof Sep 15th, 02, 06:57 PM thank you thank you... http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif sorry about the geocities shutting me down.
I did have a leaning issue before putting in the hotchkis coils (about 3/4''). The lean is still there, but not quite as bad (1/2'' now).
sfcamaro69 Sep 15th, 02, 07:28 PM boodlefoof, very nice. what size tires do you have on there (I only got a couple of pages before geocities denied me)
boodlefoof Sep 16th, 02, 03:30 AM the rims are 16x7 up front and 16x8 in back. The tires are 225/50 in front, and the rears are 255/50. They are the "Firestone Firehawk SZ50 series" if I remember the name right.
HwyStarJoe Sep 16th, 02, 03:40 AM Boodle,
I emailed you... but forgot to ask you one thing in the email. Would you mind staying in our guest room for the Winter and filling in when I can't work on mine? Room and board is free! http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif
Did you get any flack from the alignment shop when you took it in to have the front-end finalized? I see that you had the alignment shims installed in a couple photos but was that before or after? Mine started with none so I'll have to tow it in when I'm done.
And how did the a-arm bumpers end up on their pads after the Guldstrand modification? Did you modify them at all for travel?
I'll bet the ride and handling is 180 degrees different from the 'before' stance and setup! Now ya just gotta hope for a mild, snow-less Winter!
Great job John! Have fun!

Do you remember the backspacing on your wheels? I've got the same sizes front and back, and almost the same size tires, but the top outside edge of my front tires rub when I hit a bump. I think it's only going to get worse when I put Hotchkis springs on mine. I think my front wheels only have 4" backspacing and I should probably get some that sit farther back.
Looks awesome!! I'd vote to put the front bumper back on though.

boodlefoof Sep 16th, 02, 02:04 PM Ah the front bumper debate... http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif My girlfriend thinks I should put it back on as well, but I kind of like it without for now. I'll probably put it back on someday though.
As I recall, my fronts were actually 3.75'' backspace. I could be wrong though, I got them a few years ago.
Thanks for the compliments!
jrager Sep 17th, 02, 06:23 AM John,
The car look great. I guess all that work paid off.
I swear my car with the same springs is 2" lower.
How do you like the new motor? It must be like night and day compared to the old one.
So when are we meeting up so I can see this bad boy?

boodlefoof Sep 17th, 02, 01:33 PM Hey John,
The new motor is pretty sweet. Haven't finished the first 500 miles though, so I haven't been beating on it yet. I'm back down at school for awhile, but if I can get back for a weekend, I'll let you know.
L e F t C o A s T7 Sep 17th, 02, 04:17 PM Your car is a sweet ass ride boodlefoof. The hotchkis springs give it the look I was after also. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
I just don't like it when the front ends on first gens are up in the air. Your car is a treasure, keep it...

pdq67 Sep 19th, 02, 03:15 PM No E,
Yes, a 7" wide rim with a 3.75" b/s will rub the outer lip! My old E-60's on my Fenton slotted mag's did just that.
You need to hold a true 2.25" dish from the outside looking at your wheel to be able to mount a tire that won't rub. This is stock!!!
Then make up the wheel width by backspacing it accordingly!
Been there, done that sorta thing!!! pdq67
Nice.... now I'll know how mine will look soon when I get mine! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
I realy love how it looks!!
