View Full Version : CalTrac group purchase?
gwarren Apr 9th, 02, 12:00 PM I've talked with Calver Racing about a possible group purchase and wanted to gauge interest on this board.
I'm waiting for a call back from John Calvert, but the general feeling is that we'd need at least 5 confirmed orders to get any kind of a discount. The more orders, the larger the discount.
As I said, details will follow once I hear back from John, but I wanted to see how many of y'all might be interested.
For those who don't know, Caltracs are for 1st and 2nd gen fbodies only. See http://www.calvertracing.com/ for more information.

1NAST69 Apr 10th, 02, 12:54 AM gwarren, I have mine already, but I wanted to applaud you on the effort. I have thought about this many times before, though my thoughts were more geared towards us establishing a discount for members with one of the many companies who assemble short/long blocks and/or sell rotating assemblies. I think we have more than enough pull with the amounbt of members that we have to establish something like this. Not only would we benefit from the discount, but also, we would be less likely to get screwed because we would not be looked at as just one individual to this company. Of course then you would run into the problem of people finding out about the arrangement and just joining to get the discount, and not contributing to the board. But, whether now or later, it might be something to think about...

Thanks, I've put together one other group purchase for getting headers ceramic coated for another group and it worked out okay but there were snags. Mostly because it involved people taking their cars apart and shipping stuff to the company.
I think this CalTrac GP will go much smoother.
I should hear from John Calvert today. It looks like we should have at least 5 people interested....I realize for a number of you it depends on the discount. I don't know what to expect, so I'll post when I get the info and we can regauge the interest level.

gwarren Apr 10th, 02, 09:29 AM Got word from Calvert Racing. They're willing to give a 10% discount, making the total $289.
John was concerned about advertising this over the internet...he didn't want to sell them to the world at this price. So I did tell him that I've already posted it to the internet but that the demand would be something on the order of 7 units.
They seem to be okay with that, but as part of the deal I am going to compile a list of interested parties and will supply Calvert Racing with a list of names. Then we can all call and place our orders from 15 April to 19 April and get the discount (assuming your name is on the list).
So please email me at gordon.warren@attbi.com if you want to participate. I need to get a final list by Friday.
Thanks.

gwarren Apr 12th, 02, 04:47 AM So I only heard back from one person (Jeff S). Is that all that is interested in buying Caltracs at 10% off?
I have to give Calvert Racing a list of names today, so you've got a couple hours to let me know if you're still interested.

gwarren Apr 12th, 02, 07:16 AM Just in case some of you might still be on the fence...you've still got some time. I just got off the phone with them and am waiting to hear back by the end of the day on 2 questions I asked.
First, I asked if they would extend the 10% discount to shock purchases. They sell adjustable shocks for our cars.
Second, I asked if John would pick up the cost of shipping. Shipping to the east coast is about $15 so it doesn't hurt to ask.

mikestr Apr 12th, 02, 07:47 AM Maybe a new section board can be created to do things like this. There are a lot of people that need to buy the same parts and why not do it with a volume discount.

mobiletools Apr 13th, 02, 10:08 AM Well,
This might help a bit but I'm sure it will not fix the so called problem.
the big problem now is getting a T-400 that works properly.
7 weeks and the trany has been out 3 times. This is the last time. A Racing trany place is working on it and they can't seem to get the problem fixed. It's not going back to them again. If they can't figure it out with 3 rebuilds forget.

gwarren Apr 15th, 02, 07:19 AM Okay folks, the details are set and I've already ordered mine.
If you're on my list, call Calvert Racing any time over the next 2 days and place your order to get 10% off CalTrac bars and 10% of any shock purchases.
Unfortunately, shipping is not free, but to offset the taxes for CA residents, he will ship to CA for free.
When you call in, tell Travis you are part of the "camaros.net" group purchase.
Enjoy. If you have any problems, please drop me a line.
