Im ready to weld, the fixture and plates are in, when i hang the shock from upper bolt, it dosent hang in the dead center of the frame hole. Does the shock travel exactly straight up and down, or when its sitting in the lower control arm is it on an angle. The upper shock has a heim joint so it can move to center through the hole depending on the lower mount location, Im just not sure if everything is in the right place before I weld it. If any one has done this conversion please advise me on where yours was hangin.

Thanks Rich

Yep. Sounds about right.

No, it doesnt hang in the center of the hole. The shock will actually be at a slight angle when installed and yea it is close.....but nothing to worry about.

Thanks chicane, I was starting to worry, I really took my time and grinded the slot neatly for a tight weld job. Im happy to know I dont have to pull the fixture off.

While I have your attention, do you think it would be wise to weld the complete plate while on the fixture or tack/partial weld and remove the fixture for final welding. Im not a proffesional welder but my MIG set up is a Lincoln 175 plus 220v and should provide the penetration I need.

Thanks Rich

Rich,
Sounds like a cool project.

Professional racing chassis are always Heli-arc (TIG) welded. In my opinion this is superior to the Mig, in which you are melting the base metals then adding the the filler wire.

Just my opinion though.

I welded as much as possible with the jig in place to prevent any movement.
