I've been tinkering with the idea of upgrading my manual disc system to a power disc setup with an electric vacuum pump. I can get the pump for $150, and the booster for $100. I currently have a 1" MC for '67 Camaros with manual disc. My engine makes about 11" of vacuum at idle.

My biggest concern is noise. How loud are these electric pumps? I don't want the pump to ruin the music of the engine's idle.

Another question, should I stick with my 1" bore MC? Or should I just upgrade to the standard 1.125? It's only $20 more...

The pump has some noise to it, but when installed with the vacuum switch and relay. It shuts off when correct vacuum is reached and will turn back on briefly after the vacuum is drained off after using brakes. SSBC sells the vacuum switch.

Hello, ive been to 4 different wrecking yards in my area looking for one of these pumps and havent had any luck. Does anyone know of any other cars that use a similar vacuum pump? I heard from someone that some volvos and ford escorts also have this type vacuum pump, but he didnt know of the years or models.
