First off, while I haven't posted much, this site has been extremely valuable in gaining knowledge (although sometimes too much info) and helping out the shade tree mechanic. Now on to the questions:

I'm pretty much set on the following, btw it's a 68 327, 10 bolt, mono leaf.

Hotchkis 2" drop springs
Hotchkis 1.5" springs in rear
PSC complete front end rebuild kit
Helwig Sway Bar
Koni shocks

Onto the ?'s

The rear spring kit from Hotchkis is a multi leaf kit, mine is mono. Is the only thing needed the spacer between the perch and the spring? And I assume this can be a home fabbed spacer and nothing fancy? What thickness should it be?

On the front end, I would like to run 235/45/17's. From what I can see this shouldn't be an issue. What backspacing should I use? I think I remember 4.5. For the rear I want to use 255/45/17. Again backspacing? Also I am not upgrading the drums (yet) and I know most (if not all) of you run discs, so is this going to be a problem? Will the 17's clear the drums OK?

If there is anything else you think I need or forgot please let me know...

Again thanks a ton...I'd like to get this ordered ASAP...spring is right around the corner!

with your monoleaf perches out back, the hotchkis spring pack will be thicker than your perch is deep. You'll definately want to invest in some good U-bolts to hold things together... also, your lower shock plate may end up bending when you torque down the bolts... may need either some heavier duty plates or to fab up some kind of spacers to fill the gap between your perch and the plates on either side of each leaf spring.

I'm guessing that the wheels will clear the drum brakes easier than disks... if you've got 17'' rims, they'll generally clear all but the biggest of disk systems... if someone else has more info on that hopefully they'll chime in.

Ditto with John's suggestions. My offering would be this homemade spacer to make up the difference in height between the multi-leaf & monoleaf springs, should be smaller than the spring height difference to allow the proper clamping of the springs and the pads, if used.

If rubber pads aren't used, then the spacer height would be 1/16-3/32 inch smaller to clamp everything together.

In either case, don't forget about the spring centering bolt and its location with the shock plate.

Measure diagonally the rear axle to front axle before disaasembly. This can be used as a valuable reference come reassembly time.

I finished my rear spring and front spring project a short time back. For the front I went with Eibach. They were 1 inch lower and quite a bit stiffer but I can't rember how much. For the rear I ordered the five leaf spring set AND the installation kit from National Parts Depot. You do have to grind off two lips on each rubber (two) but everything else was easy. The switch from mono to multi made a world of difference. I am sure you will like yours when you finish!
