What are the advantage of the short Steering arms over the long ones? I have the longs on my 67 RS/SS & have just run accross another set of the short ones. Today I had a set of the long ones, middle ones & the short ones in my garage at the same time, didn't know this until I checked them out. Also what is the advantage of the bigger center link? What Cars came with short arms & the big center links? I personally haven't seen no pattern on the short arms & big links. I have found several small block Novas with the big center link & the long arms.

I've been looking into this for a while and have had some input from Team Camaro members on it.
I have the info on my web page below.

The large center link was first used on big block cars then seems to get used on more and more later cars. I've heard PS cars got the larger center link too, but from what I've seen, most 67/68 PS small blocks didn't get them.

The advantage is more stable steering if you have wide tires and corner and brake hard. How much this is true isn't really clear, but I think it's worth stiffening the steering linkage if you have the opportunity to do so.

The shorter steering arms make the steering quicker, but harder.

The larger diamter centerlink was originally used on 67 and possibly 68 power steering cars. Don't beleive the engine size affected the bar diameter. There is only one centerlink used in 69, and it's the smaller one. The only one carried by the service department after 68 was the large one, so if you went to GM for a replacement centerlink your small diameter one got replaced with a large diameter one.

My 67 came with Power steering/Power Brakes & was a RS/SS 350 & it has the orginal one on it & it is the Smaller one. It was built in 09 C of 66. I've personally saw more of the short Steering arms on Z-28's & Manual Steering Camaro's.

I read somewhere that when the big block Camaros came out in early 67, the large dia center link was first used on them, I have no confirmation what triggered their use.
The other application might be air conditioning, but that's a guess.

I have a car mag article from around 1970 that says at that time the large link was the only replacement available.

It seems later Camaros and Nova's used the thick one more often.

I have a orginal #'s matching 67 RS 327/210 powergluide,10 bolt, deluxe interior with AC,power drum brakes, Power Steering of a friend here it has the mediun steering arms & the small center link. It seems like to me that the General just used what ever he had that day when the subframe was built. Now I just need to find a Nova to get a Large center link from to go with the short arms for my 67 Camaro. I've been checking every Camaro I see for this setup, it is not very common. I was at Super Chevy in Bristol Tn. Yesterday & had the pleasure to see one of the 69 ZL1 Camaro's, There were several 67-69 Camaros there. Very few parts for sale.
