View Full Version : new camaro front subframes
redhead Oct 1st, 99, 10:21 AM hello all, this my first time on this board
so I'll just jump in head first.
As I am reconstructing my street 68 SS
convertible I am seriously considering a
new front subframe which will accept an 87
corvette suspension.
I recently read about a place in Washington
which sells these type of frames.
has anyone tried this yet to give me some
pointers? this my first resto project
so let me know if I'm getting in too deep.
thanks
tples69 Oct 4th, 99, 04:19 PM I just purchased an ARDF subframe from Art and I expect delivery in the late December time frame. Art has been extremely helpful and patient in answering my questions and making me feel comfortable in taking on this phase of my restification.
I compared many different setups including, Martz, Global West, Guldstrand, and others. I felt the ARDF gave me the most bang for my buck, and since it's not totally custom I can upgrade the brakes (Vette) and go to a power rack & pinion in the future if I find it necessary or desirable.
I will post more real-life info as this unfolds.
Good luck!
redhead Oct 5th, 99, 04:05 AM yes yes exactly.
thanks very much for your feedback.
are there any other considerations for
the convertible frames?
can we ever completely drop those
cocktail shakers?
are you building for street or strip?
craigon Oct 10th, 00, 05:29 PM I wanted to revisit this thread since I’ll be in the market for a new subframe for my 69 restification early next year. Anyone have comments/suggestions on non stock subframe products. The two Camaro products I’ve run a cross are the Rasmussen subframe and Chris Alston ChassisWorks subframe due out by this year end. How did things go with the previous poster’s installation?
wayne due Oct 10th, 00, 08:55 PM I'm building the new camaro subframe.
It works and looks good I took over building
the subframe after Art passed away,I'm
also building a corvette I.R.S. kit for the
first gen. I have installed 3 and I think
I can do it in a weld in kit form.
Let me know what you all think.
Thanks Wayne
craigon Oct 11th, 00, 04:28 AM Wayne,
Dang, I did not know he passed away. I just started this project (my 1st), so only started paying attention to all things Camaro recently. My condolences and sorry for my ignorance.
Where is the info and contact information for the your subframe now located? I know it use to be in Art's hotroddingtoday.com, but I just tried to go there and get a page display error. Thanks for the previous response.
craigon Oct 11th, 00, 04:37 AM Never mind, I just read Wayne's previous post where he said to send an Email for more info...
redhead Oct 11th, 00, 04:38 AM wow, thanks for revisiting my post.
I recieved my new frame earlier this year
before Art passed. I honestly don't know the
state his business now however. I have been
waiting several months for the rest of the
suspension parts to arrive. I placed my
order over a year ago and it has still not
been filled. I'm getting very frustrated.
tples69 Oct 11th, 00, 07:09 PM Sorry to hear about you issues getting parts. What are you missing?
My understanding is Theresa has closed the doors and Wayne is building the frames under a totally different business. Not sure if he is liable for ARDF business. Doesn't hurt to ask.
Good luck.
