What is the mesurement from backing plate to backing plate on a 2nd gen Camaro rear? I have a rear that is 50" from backing plate to backing plate and I would like to know if it would fit.

I am not sure about the backing plate distance, but they should be 61 inches from drum face to drum face. Thats one inch wider than first generation.

By casting numbers, my 12 bolt is from a 70 year camaro and it's (approx) 55" from flange to flange. If stock, I'm not sure what that 50" diff. would be from. Has it possibly been modified (narrowed)?

The rear that I have I think came from a 69 RS and I was wondering if I move the spring purches out would the rear still fit on my car.

I'd be careful when moving spring perches. If not done correctly, your car can "dogtrack" or have all kinds of vibration/driveline problems.
If done properly, a 1st Gen rear would physically fit in a 2nd Gen car, but the stock wheels may not work. You would need wheels with a smaller backspacing measurement, or they could rub on the inside of the wheel wells, or even on the leaf springs.
