the instructions say that vehicles with 5 leaf stock springs may need to contact hotchkis to receive an extra leaf spring pad and center bolt????

my car has the 5 leafs stock (1973) but not sure if the springs i have are original to the car. has anyone done this to their second gen without the extra pad ... i do not want to get the car apart and wait 5 days to get this extra pad. is it necessary?

also, summit sold these springs in either a complete kit or just the springs. i got part 2408 and the kit is 2408 c .. says competetion .. what is that, a higher rate spring? more drop? i know hte c includes shackles and hangers.

I believe the "c" is the complete kit, springs bushings, shackles and u-bolts and nuts...

The extra plate and longer center bolt is because you may not be able to clamp down on the springs very well when you tighten the shock plate. I needed it on my '69 as even with the plate secured all the way, torque made things slip. Call the Hotchkis number and have them overnight it to you...

I put the Hotchkis springs on my Wife's 73 Camaro.
The kit came with rear bushings and spring pads. The four leaf springs were 1 1/4" thick, the Hotchkis are just under 1 1/16".
The upper pads look like they are slightly thicker than the origonal four leaf pads.

When I tightened the lower spring plate, the plate bottoms on the spring perch, so it's hard to tell how much pressure is clamping the springs.

I had to make a 3/8" thick plate to mount betwen the spring and multi-leaf pad to get the plate ti tighen up enough to stay put.
