Hey guys.....finally got my '69's front end back together. Rebuilt the suspension and front brakes.
I had the booster sent out for a rebuild and plating job. The guy told me that my old master had been leaking and sugessed that I either rebuild it or replace it. I went the replacement route....
Anyhow ... I bench bled the master and everything went fine. I mounted it on the car and bled all 4 corners as normal.
I got good fluid at all 4 corners but am still struggling with what I would call excessive pedal travel. The brakes are firm and tight...but I can't get the pedal to come up. It is around 1" from the floorboard when fully pressed. Anyone got any ideas?
The brakes work fine (have had it out on the road) ... but this low pedal / pedal travel issue is bothering me....

Is the hole in the rear of the new master cyl the same depth as the old one?
Is this disc or drum?

Power front disk brakes. Deep hole master...same as the old one. The pushrod and master match up....

Steve,
I don't want to insult you, but did you put the calipers on right side up with the bleeders on the top?
I've heard of people doing this.
You might try bleeding at the master cyl fittings if you don't have bleeders there.
Try blocking the brake hoses one at a time and see if the pedal comes up.
Use a pair of neddle nose vise grip pliers with aluminum strips or tape over the jaws. Go gently or you will damage the hose.
Does your brake light switch come on?
Have someone apply the brakes and watch the calipers, see if they move excessively. There might be something crooked that is flexing and taking up travel.
It takes a lot of pedal movement to move the caliper .010"

Hey David.... you won't insult me...
Yeah...the calipers are mounted with the bleeders up. I have observed the calipers and they don't seem to be moving excessively.
I will have to check on the brake light..but I believe it is funtioning properly and is "off" while driving. Also...thanks for the idea of blocking the hoses...I'll give that a shot....

Steve,
Did you adjust your rear brake shoes? They should be adjusted so they touch the drum but still turn without draging.

Steve,
Who did you use to rebuild your booster?
Were you happy with the job?
I need to rebuild mine and I'm looking for any recommendations. Thanks

I had Steve Gregori at http://brakeboosters.com/ do my booster work. I am very pleased with the results.
Feel free to visit my site for some pictures of the booster before and after.... they are under the Winter '00 link.
