My new 383/TH350 is gonna need some help stopping, so i decided to get a power booster from NAPA. The system will be a power drum/drum set up. What do i need to get for parts?? I know i need vaccum from the manifold which may be a problem because of my XE274H cam? I know i need a new master cylinder, but what about proportioning valves, brake pedal rods, plumbing, etc?? Thanks

You need the following parts- the booster, the power brake rod that mounts on the other hole on the brake pedal lever(lower), and a hose to a vacuum source. You do not need to change master cylinders, brake lines, etc. It will bolt right up.If you are careful, you can get away without unbolting your existing lines.Simply pull the MC forward enough to slide the booster on and go for it. I did my 67 last year- no need for prop valves, etc. The other parts you mention come into play if you were to change over to a disc setup. Its a needed upgrade thats easy to do.

my 2 cents:
go with a disc set up instead.
drums are old hat and the new disc brake conversions are cheap.
an added plus is youll always know youll have adequate braking power.

Thanks for the input... I have had the booster for a while but didnt install it...and I am out of money from the 383/th350 build. I am piecing together a disc brake kit but for now I'm thinking a power drum setup will be better than just drums. Any other thoughts?

Many of the racers back in the day would swap out discs for drums. Less drag. I've got power drums on mine and have no complaints. They make hi-performance shoes for your application that stop much better than stock. Can't think of the vendor right off the top of my head??

Power drums are a heck of a lot better than manual, and when you finally are able to covert to disc, you'll already have a few of the needed pieces. My 67 power drums worked great. Yours will too...

I think is the company that makes h-d shoe linings for our cars drum brakes??

Kevlar sounds familiar...

PS., and if I could get the front spindles, I honestly would have went Big Car 11" drum brakes all the way around on my drum car like the "rare as hens-teeth" Z-16 '65 Chevelle BB car had!!
