Is there a physical size difference from the original power steering box that came in my '69 and the '87 IROC box that I've put in? My old box is gone but they did look the same. Just curious as I'm buying hedders now. Thanks.

I don't see any difference.

Agree with Dave. But when you drive it, you'll sure feel a difference!
When I first swapped mine in, the effort was so much higher, I thought maybe there was something wrong! Nope, just different (better) valving.

Repo Man. Is that the box you used?
Did you just have to change the fittings to metric? What about pump?
How many turns is it, lock to lock?

I used one that was supposed to have come from an '88.
I changed nothing on my pump, and I salvaged original PS hoses from a junkyard. I used standard hydraulic hose with an AC PF 883 (long number, 25010169) power steering filter for the return line, and I cut and double flared both the original, and a new PS steering hose for my application, and used a brass tube union to join them.
If the flare adapters that Lee Manufacturing sells now had been available at the time, I probably would have used them instead.
Though I'm sure it is common knowledge on this forum, I used a 7826542 coupler.
The box leaked from the input shaft seal from the time I got it. I lived with it for years, but in 1997 I finally got an upper seal kit from the dealership (ordered by application, an '88 IROC) and replaced the upper seal. I marked the upper bearing retainer so I could be sure to get the adjustment right on reassembly. The input shaft was scored, so I had to use aluminum oxide cloth to smooth out the area where the seal rides. It has been leak free ever since.
With my Momo steering wheel, it is a little over 21/2 turns lock to lock. Plenty fast enough for me. Swapping in that steering box is one of the single best things I've ever done to my car.
