Guy, got my car back on the road this evening. I had forgotten how sloppy the steering is on it. If I'm going in a straight line, I can wobble the steering wheel from about 10 oclock to 2 oclock without any change in the steering. What are the likely culprits here and how do I nail it down. It's a manual steering on a 69 Camaro.

For starters, I'd take up the lash in the steering box.
There are two adjustments, one is the screw on top, the other is on the end plug.
I think there is more info here: http://www.monte-list.nu/tech/boxmesh.shtml
Also look at tire rod ends, pitman and idler arm.

David, thanks...AGAIN! You are a wealth of information. Don't know what this board would do without you.

BTW, how's the racing going these days?

If you are going to rebuild the front end, don't forget to replace the rag joint. They can get a little "mushy" with age.

David, ok, I tried adjusting as per the procedure. Doesn't seem to be enough of the adjusting screw threads left to be able to lock the lock nut. Does this mean that there is that much slack in this box?

I would ultimately like to go to a power box, but am working on the cheap. Is there a particular box/pump that I should look for out of the junk yard?

What front end rebuild kit have you guys used or would you recommend?
