Well, I got my info Guldstrand Engineering yesterday and read it last night. I would recommend that anyone considering modifying their car for better handling call and get this info.

The catalog has a good discussion of what handling means and describes the various terms, etc... They walk through some examples and use some math to help the discussion along.

There is also a good discussion of what the "Guldstrand modification" does and why the stock front suspension doesn't work in a high performance setting. A couple of diagrams showed the suspension geometry before and after the modification.

Other than that, they sell your basic suspension components.

You can also check out Art Rasmussen Design and Fabrication at www.hotroddingtoday.com. (http://www.hotroddingtoday.com.) I have decided to go this route over the Global West, Martz and other mods. Don't get me wrong, any of these is way better than the stock suspension.

I agree that the Global West or Rasmussen suspensions would be better than stock. I actually prefer the Rasmussen set-up since it uses the GM developed suspension geometry. Nothing against Global West, but I bet GM spent millions more developing the Corvette suspension than Global West did developing theirs.

Bottom line: I want my car to handle well, but don't want to spend $3-4,000 on my front end. Basic suspension mods plus some form of geometry modification (Guldstrand mod or spindle extenders) should get my car at least into the late 80s if not the early 90s in terms of handling.

gheatly,
Your probably right that G.M. spent alot designing the front suspestion for a corvette. But you also have to consider that they designed it for the corvette characteristics, like the weight, rear suspension, body desing, wheel base etc. I'm not trying to nock the suspension it looks great, but the global west suspension was desined for the camaro with all of its characteristics. I'm sure global west put together many years of experience with first gen camaro's and what it take to make them handle as well as possibl.
