The ball joint kit that I have has what looks like a sleeve to go into the joint hole on the upper a-arm. I am assuming this goes in first and then the ball joint. Trouble is it won't fit into the hole. :( Is this piece really needed? :confused: If so I will grind the hole to make it fit but if it is not necessary I will not put it in.

What you have is the cage that holds the dust boot in place. No grinding needed! As I remember...the ball joint sits on top of the control arm and the cage and dust boot go on from underneath. You can either use the nuts and bolts included to attach it or buy the correct rivets and have it riveted back on if you want originality. Either way will work fine.

I just did all 4 balljoints on my 69 bird and went together just as Dave stated. I thought it was wrong too , but they would only go together that way..
