Awhile back there was a post regarding quick ratio power steering and the use of short steering arms. I am considering switching from my current manual box to a quick ratio power box. I know I can get the correct idler arm and pitman arm from the aftermarket. I currently have the longer steering arms. What I need to know is if there is a source for the short steering arms, or if they were used on other cars-maybe a Nova? There aren't many first gen Camaros in salvage yards around here. Also, are any other modifications needed? If I'm not able to locate the short steering arms, will using the ones I currently have create problems? Thanks.

Look for 67-69 Camaro and Firebird, and 69-74 Nova, with power steering, some fast ratio manual cars may have them too.
I have a photo and measurement of the short arms on my web page.

Yes. I am keeping the manual for now but am going to replace the arms. David and Mark Canning have a very detailed discussion on the CRG forum. Highly recommended reading! Anyone converting from manual to power should not ignore this additional swap for better steering ratios.

You can use your long arms and it will work fine. I think you will have about a half turn more lock to lock with the long outer arms, maybe a bit more than that.
I think your stock long arms could be shortened, and welded back together. But you would have a hard time finding someone who would be willing to do it because of liability. I've seen it done on race cars. I've even seen spindles lengthened by welding.
