I just did the Guldstrand mod on my 69. Now when I go to an autocross, when they tech the car is it going to put me in another class or can I still run in street stock?

You can't run in stock class - legally.
You can only change front sway bar, no wider wheels, no spring or bushing changes.
No engine mods either, no headers, no cam, you must have all smog equipment, stock type trans.
A first gen is not competetive in stock class, IMHO.
Look at street prepared class rules.

What's the deal if a schmoe like me just wants to go out and have a good time? I know both my driving ability and car won't be competitive, I just want to turn and burn. What's the best way to go?

I think I'd start off in street prepaired and see if you get any flack.
You can change cams, add headers, springs, swaybars etc.
Even move suspension pickup points, I think. I don't think aftermarket heads are allowed but if you don't beat the top guys in class, they probably won't squak.

You can compare your times to whatever class (like stock) you want.
Figure the fast guys will be using better tires with more stick.
Those tires are usually three to four seconds quicker over a one minute timed run.

Thanks David. I was kind of thinking that anyway. When I go I'll probably run on a pair of Blue Streaks anyway.
I used to run with BFG T/A's and they stuck pretty well. It sounds like Street Prepared is where everybody else is going to run. Everybody runs with headers.It's been a long time but it seems like I used to run close to the Shelbys and the T/As. Maybe it's selective memory.

Hey Carl, Try getting hold of the local Vette club. There are usually guys around putting together an autocross in a parking lot somewhere. Sometimes they can be snobby(after all they own Corvettes) but usually all you need is a car, seatbelts and a helmet. Have fun.

I allways tried to get in with the shelby or vette guys, their courses were more open with good straightaways.
A course with 90 degree or less corners with medium to long straights between them is lots of fun to run on.
I ran a fiew events at the old Lion Country theme park near where 5 and 405 come together, nice area if it's still there.
