I have searched through the old posts but didn't really find my answer. I was thinking of installing chrome traction bars on my '69 Camaro for 2 reasons. First, because it will wheel hop when I spin the rear wheels and second, because they look cool :D .
Now, I have mono-leaf springs with air shocks, a 3:08 non-posi rearend and a 3 speed tranny. As you can tell they will just be for looks. Summit has a set for $37.95 and I was just wondering if anybody else has ever used these? They are the universal ones that use U-bolts for installation.

This is a hot/cold issue. Some people have great results with traction bars (Pdq67 and others) while others have not-so-great results.

I presonally took mine off (they were the ones you're looking at) just because I don't like the looks, and custom-ordered some Mopar S/S style springs to fit my car. That worked like a charm.

If they don't work right off the bat, you may have to make some adjustments.

Hey bud, what's happening? I have a set of the Lakewood yaller ones on the 69. They work fine. You just have to make sure that you install them correctly. If you wanted serious traction assistance you need to buy the slide a link system. There is a Cruise-in on Saturday evening in Jeff City. The wife and I will have the 69 and the 75 there. Hope you can make it up.

I've used those exact bars, but I had to bend the heck out of the mounting flanges to get them to mount up the way I wanted them. I also had to cut the bumpers down a bunch to get them as close to the spring as posible for the best results. They worked fine but the chrome wasn't looking so good after all that so I painted them flat black. BTW, out of the box, the chrome isn't very good on those bars and I'd say they'd rust pretty quick anyway.

P.S. Check around at your local discount Auto Parts Store. I got mine for $29.95 and no S&H.

They were on my car when I got it. They bent downward on every hard launch, and for a while, I beat them back up with a hammer, but then I just took them off. I really don't like the "big traction bar hanging underneath my car" look either.

It is also a poker run for the Blue Knights and the local club is doing the cruise-in. Weather permitting I will be taking the '69 to that. If the weather is still nice that evening I want to come to Jeff City in the '97 convertible. If my wife is finished then she will come also. We'll look for you if we do come.

hey rojo i had the same problem you had with my traction bars. i had to bend out (slightly) and grind away a little bit to get mine to fit over my lower control arms. this is on a chevelle so its not the same style bar. this reply has nothing to do with your question. heh... graemlins/clonk.gif
