I am planning to put a seal kit in my power steering box while I am rebuilding the front suspension/steering on my '68 Camaro. Does anyone have any advice/tips for this job? I am assuming that I will need no "special" tools to do this. My buddy said I should rebuild the whole box. I kinda think I don't need to go that far. The car drove ok and the box does not leak. Is there any manuals or books out there that would cover working on one of these boxes? Thanks in advance for any help on this topic.

The kit should come with instructions, the GM Overhaul manual has full rebuild instructions.

Swapping in a box with faster ratio and stiffer valving really makes the car drive nice.
Are you sure you don't want a nice new PS box? huh? maybe? :D

Rando, I did a complete rebuild on my unit. If there is not a lot of play on the sector shaft, I recommend that you do not take it apart. Dealing with the 21 balls is a real pia. Keep it closed, clean up the outside and paint it. Otherwise, as David suggested swap it for a faster unit. The instructions on assembly and disassembly are well covered in the shop manual.

I replaced the input shaft seal, the output shaft seal, and the end seal on mine. Very simple process and about the only tool you might need to buy is a good set of snap-ring pliers.
