View Full Version : 68 Camaro: if I get a new metering valve, what to do about T-junction box?

I have a 68 Camaro 350 with manual disk/drum brakes. It has the Round Metering valve and the junction box with light switch setup (no in-line rear proportioning valve),the master cylinder leaks also. So for safety's sake, I think I should replace the whole shebang. And, I may as well throw a power booster on at the same time. I've spent hours reading the forum postings but still don't understand what is the recommended set up. I understand if a buy a disk/drum master cylinder, it will take care of one of the valves, to keep residual pressure only in the rear drum lines. Now, if I either have my Round Metering valve rebuild or buy one, I take care of the front/rear pressure build up valve. And it sounds like Proportioning valves are optional, and apparently my car never had one, so lets skip the need for that. So my question is where do I go from here? I assume I just need a junction box to split the front line to the two sides, run the rear throug and turn on the Brake Warning Light. But, no one sells them any more from what I can tell. Do I have any option other than to reuse my rusty one? It looks like the only moving part in it is the light switch (and I assume that is worn out or broken - like most of the other parts in the car!) So, any advice from the experts? Or... is everyone of us out here just better off to buy a $70 Combination valve that does everything plus adds a Proportioning valve to it? And if I do that, it seems like all the suppliers just sell a one-size fits all Combination valve that apparently works for all 1st and 2nd generation Camaros. Can one valve deliver the correct braking setup for all Camaros? Is it smart or dumb to just buy one of those and be done with it? Sorry for the long question, but I'm not sure what to do. Thanks.

Can anyone give me any information about disk brake valve setups? I don't know if on my 68 Camaro I should buy a 'Combination' Valve. Or rebuild/replace my stock 'round metering valve' and T-distribution valve w/warning light. I see where I buy a new Metering Valve, but I don't see the plaing old T-valve parts out there any where. Any advice will be appreciated. thanks.

if you are sure the OE junction block is bad, try getting a combo valve out of an x-body. they were about the same weight distribution and brake size as your camaro up to about '79.

T valves are available. i've seen them on trailer brakes junctioned off of the master cyl. NAPA might carry them. inlinetube.com has a bunch of stuff like that. they have them in a kit. they might sell them separately.

there's not much to go wrong on the OE junction. if it is not clogged, and the switch works, it's still good. i dont think it can rust... isn't it brass?

the rear regulator was not on most cars, unless they had A/C... maybe only BB camaro.. i dont know... but they are a good idea anyway. the adjustable ones only adjust the 'knee point' higher or lower, but that is all you'll really need for the back. the metering valve will help with front dive, and slippery conditions.
