View Full Version : Good lowering technique for RS

I have a '89 RS with the 305 and 700R4. Was wondering what the best way would be to lower the car. I don't want it slammed, just low enough to get rid of the fender-well gap and give it a more road-rugging stance. I have been looking at the Eibach sport-line kit, but it only lowers the car 1.8 inches. Would that be enough to tell a good difference in appearance? I really don't want to go to sawing on the springs or any modifications other than bolt ons, but I'll do whats necessary. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

There is very little room to lower those cars. I had an 89 IROC and it ran just off the bump stops by about a half inch.
I think the Eibach springs are about all you can do.
Watch the bump stops.
These cars tend to come down on the bump stops when braking even in a straight line, and get worse when braking into a corner.
The 16" IROC wheels may hit if you lower too much, if you have them.

Thanks for the info, Dave! I have been reading up on the clearence on these cars, and you are absolutely correct. Unless you are just showing the car, Sport Line kit from Eibach is the best bet. I have '92 Z28 16-inch wheels, are the specs any different than the IROC's or just different in cosmetics? Thanks again.
