I just installed my adjastable spring spacer and new 600 pound springs.

I have an idea to adjust spring heig without taking them of.What do you think give me your opinion.

If I cut slots on the big adj. nut like thing which sits on top of the spring and cut a 1/4 or 1/2"diagonal hole outside of the spring pocket and adj. it sort of like brake adj. on drum brake. Only think would be not to work maybe to much spring preasure.

What do you guys think?

Sorry, don't no. It's a shame there isn't enough room to get a spanner wrench on the outside b/c one would work fine. Just like adjusting shocks. pdq67

ismail,
I'm probably going to try that.
I figure I'll need to cut a slot in the frame pocket side. The rear side may be a good location to do it.
Then notch the outer adjuster. Hopefully at full droop the suspension won't have much pressure on the adjuster to allow it to move.

David,
I got 600 pounds spring to be on the soft side little bit instead of 700. If I go with LS1 engine do you think its to much because weight difrence between iron block and aliminium?

I need to pull mine out within the next few days. I'll take a look.

ismail,
I think you will be at a pretty good rate. I bought a 650 to try on my 67 and plan on an aluminum block SB chevy.

Carl, If the springs don't come a bit loose at full droop, try removing the upper bump rubber under the upper A frames.
The sway bar may bind up before that.

David,

I have to re-adjust the front ride height so removal of the springs is required.

Fortunately, the springs + adjusters is short enough that no compressor is needed even with the bumpstops in place.

It's a fairly painless 1 1/2 hour job. Fortunately I don't have to do it very often.

Rule of thumb, however much you want to change the ride height, change the adjuster 1/2 as much. At least it will get me in the ballpark.

Take a look at the picture on my website. It might be difficult to modify the Landrum part since the tubular section seat in the frame and cannot rotate. The lower section could be modified with some weld-on knobs on top of the spring plate to pry on but some adjustment would be lost. It might also be difficult to put enough knobs so you could get an effective bite.

Carl,
I was thinking of putting some notches in the outside of the lower part of the adjuster and cutting a hole in the side of the frame to get to it.
It might be possible to get at it with a big screwdriver or something. That way you could just jack the car up, and turn the ring, without having to pop the ball joint out.
Do you know where the adjuster ring is positioned height wise, in the subframe?
Here's Carl's spring and adjuster photo.
