Hey guys- I'm getting ready to rebuild my '69 Camaro's rear suspension. I have been reading all the post on this subject, and have a few questions regarding the fiberglassleafs.
(1)Which brand do you suggest,Landrum,Vette,or Flex a Form?
(2)What spring rate would be good for a 450h.p. daily driven car?
(3)Can you use the Cal-Trac bars with the Fiberglass springs?
(4)and FINALLY, What type of bushings would be best to run with the fiberglass springs?(Polygraghite or solid)

I want the car to have a good ride but still be able to put the power to the ground to humiliate those 5.0 guys.Appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Gary

I bought the kit from Vette Brakes. I love the fiberglass monos on the rear. I have even found that I eliminate wheel hop with these. I don't know the spring rate. I have the Poly bushings on my set up too and it makes the car run really tight. .

Ditto on what gadzooks said. They're great springs and no wheel hop so forget the traction bars. I'm running polyurethane bushings and they squeak a bit but they are tight. I would suggest poly graphite to stop the sqeak.

I had A set of fiberglas spingson my Z-28 Both sets broke Thay delaminate on both of them Thay were Vette products Called the company and thy were real good on replacing them with some thing else . While talking to them thay said the spings would not work if you are pushing over 400Hp something thay don,t tell you Have pictures if you want to see. They road nice and no wheel hop. But I would not get them. See more on Pro-Tour.Com

I would go to a Steel spring. Much safer at least you know that your rear end will stay in place. Go with the steel springs from Vette Products or PST.

Dale -

I'd like to see your pics. I am re-doing my motor now to increase power from about 400+ up closer to 500. I'd prefer not to find out about a spring failure the hard way! I've talked to the guys at VB several times and they never said anything about this problem. I'll have to give them another call so any additional info you can share would be appreciated.

Dale,Thanks for that info. How many miles did you have on those springs that broke? What did you replace them with, mono's or multi?I was thinking of getting Landrum's parabolic mono leaf w/175lb rating. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dale Buerger:

The spring Had about 1.5 summers on it maybe 3500 miles on them.Thay broke two days before going to Car Craft nationals. I was pissed. Never made it to the nationals. I was shifting from 1st to second gear when they broke. The springs that I went to were multi leaf from vette products. They seem to work out very well. I,m Also running Cal traks tractions bars on the springs now work out realy good.

Dale,Do your CAL-TRACS mount the shocks on the inside of the leafs? I'm going to get a set for mine and I heard you can order them that way so you can have more tire clearance.
I want the widest tire possible without mini tubbing or relocating the leafs.

My Cal Tracs shock mounts are on the outside.I went and did some measuring for you. 1st My rear rim size is 17x9 with a 5.5in backspacing with a 275 40 17 BFG G Force KD Tires. My Shock body is 1.25in from the tire. Also my rear tire is 1 in from the leafspring. Also the lower shock mount fits in the rim. looking to mount the shocks different would work but you will have to remove the axel Bump stops. I hope this will help you out.
