that could just be the tolerance on the body panels. it wouldn't be too hard for an assembly line worker to get a quarter panel off that far 35 years ago, or some shadetree backyard body man to put a replacement panel on the car a little off..

Back axle every thing is new but drivers side is
off 3/8 front to backas compared to the passenger side, right?

Could be from an accident somewhere in the past 30 odd years. The frame rail could be bent or it could be the control arms. Scrutinize the control arms where they attach to the frame and compare symmetry to the passenger side. Control arms are easy to straighten and inexpensive to replace. Frame work will likely require a shop.

The Quarter panel could be off by that amount easily. If the car is tracking ok and tire wear is even, you may be ok. I would pay to put the car on a body shop frame rack. They can perform the measurements that would tell you if there are frame alignment problems. One more thing, how is the axel mounted on the leaf springs? Measure the relationship between the mounting pad and the front of the spring. Good luck

Doh! Didn't grasp that it was the back axle. Measure the distance between front and rear tires on each side. Compare the measurements to see if the axle is cocked. If it is, there's probably enough play in the spring pack mounts to compensate.
