: HELP!! Brake Bleeding Problems

'67 Convertible Restoration is almost complete. But the brakes are killing me!!

The car has drum brakes with everything new, master cylinder, lines, wheel cylinders, prop. valve. I have added a booster to the cars standard brakes.

The rear brakes appear to work great. When attempting to bleed the front brakes I get a small amount of fluid and a large amount of air. I'm using a vacuum pump to bleed them and I can't eliminate the air from the system. There is no sign of any leaks in the lines and I have tightned all of the fittings. I have replaced the bleeders, which didn't do a thing!

At this point I'm not sure if one of the new wheel cylinders (Wagner) is bad, the master cylinder, or the prop. valve.

Any input would be helpful!
Thanks,
Paul

bleed the brakes at the master cyl.

if you continue to get air out of the master, it is bad. (make sure the master cyl is level.)

an excellent tool to bleed brakes with is a rubber tipped syringe. you can use this to pressure bleed in either direction. i usually use it in the master to force the fluid downwards. i also use this tool to bench bleed master cyls using the backflush method.

i have never liked vacuum bleeding. pressure bleeding or partner beeding is better. also running a hose from the bleeder to a jar and submerging the hose in fluid works.

Did you bench bleed the master cylider before mounting it?

Perhaps air is slipping by the threads on the bleeder screws? You can remedy this by coating the threads in some grease.

With all of those new/dry lines I would consider filling the master and gravity bleeding the whole system, after bench bleeding the master and buttoning up the whole system.

Thanks for the responses!

I must have been the master cylinder. I replaced it with another new one and started the whole bleeding process over again and it worked.

I took it for a quick test drive last night and it even locked up the wheels during a hard braking caused by some of our local whitetail deer population. Oh well, hunting season starts next month, I'll address that problem them.

Thanks again.
