I took my 68 down to the local spring shop this week to get the rear springs re-arced(sp) and rebuilt. The call I knew would come told me that the springs were beyond use. They were not only rusted to thin slabs but also broken.
They ordered in and put on a new set of multi leaf springs today.
The guy at the shop told me that the spring cannot sit down at the stock hieght because the rear of the spring is hitting the frame.
I must say here that someone in this poor cars past has tried to fix the rear spring mount with a new piece of metal but moved the shakle mount forward about an inch. This is one of the reasons the shop thinks they are hitting. The other is they are not sure the shackles are the stock ones.

My question:
How hard is it to replace the rear frame mounts to fix the poor fix from the past and what is the length of the shackle suppose to be?

I have seen the rear frame mount add-on pieces. Do these just go over the old ones or do you cut the old ones off and splice these on?

Thanks
