: Lower Control Arm Bolts
Tonyx33 Feb 15th, 04, 01:12 PM just checking to see which way the front bolts
face when i took them out threads were towards the back assm. manual show them facing the front
its on a 69 have looked at some and they are facing towards the back to thanks for the help
chicane67 Feb 15th, 04, 02:37 PM I have always put both the front and rear bolts......in from the front. I dont know if that is "correct", but it has always been the perfered direction of most of the tuners I have known. I guess the train of thought, is if the nuts were to come off that it would be harder for the bolt to come out. I dunno.....I guess it made sense at the time.
HwyStarJoe Feb 15th, 04, 02:42 PM Mine were in from the front, and believe me, they were that way from the factory.
;)
That makes sense to me Tom.
Tonyx33 Feb 15th, 04, 05:12 PM Thanks guys you can always find what you need
to know here I'll have to change the front ones
maybe putting a jack under it will hold it while
I change them
RamJam Feb 15th, 04, 06:39 PM Tony, Yes, I just replaced my bushings and the bolts went in from the front and that was factory.
 Caution!!!
Never go under any car with just a jack holding it up. You have to use jackstands..
MickyT Feb 15th, 04, 09:43 PM Eeeek yet another mistake Ive made. So the bolts both front and rear go in from the front with the exposed threads going to the rear of the car? I put in the fronts that way but figured it made sense to insert the rear bolts towards the front of the car with the nut inside the hole on the subframe crossmember. I thought thats the way it was from the factory.
ohcscott Feb 16th, 04, 02:20 AM i put 'm in whichever way is easiest at the time. no problems in 15 years on many, many vehicles. :D
yes tony, use stands under frame. put big floor jack under arm until loose bolt can be moved freely or semi-freely. then put a screwdriver or similar tool in the hole as you draw out the bolt from the other side. after bolt is out, put another screwdriver in that side, take out first one, and put in bolt from that side.
the screwdriver does 2 things. 1) semi-saftey measure. 2) may help wiggle the arm around to line up the bolt, if need be.
do not tighten until suspension is settled at ride height.

novaderrik Feb 16th, 04, 06:07 AM both of my Nova subframes had the bolts coming in from the rear with the threads facing forward. looks prety stock to me. plus, it makes it easier to pound the bolts out after 35 years of corroding into place.
rszmjt Feb 18th, 04, 06:44 PM My 43,000 mile RSZ28 has NEVER had the lower control arms removed and the bolts face forward.
RamJam Feb 19th, 04, 07:25 PM Guess it depended on who was installing them at the factory. I've had my camaro since 1977 and I new of it before that so I know they were never replaced.
RickD Feb 20th, 04, 02:44 AM Mine too went in from the rear with the threads facing forward. I wouldn't put too much faith in consistency from the factory. I found a vintage budweiser can inside my quarter. Does everyone else have one!
JohnZ Feb 21st, 04, 09:41 AM The bolt direction was optional - my untouched Norwood 02D '69 has the bolt heads to the front. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
