I have a pair of great, straight, rust free, original fenders off my standard camaro, and i am converting my car to RS/SS so how can i modify my current fenders to accept the RS equipment? I really dont want to buy new fenders... thanks.

I was looking at doing this myself in the near future. In a few of the aftermarket catalogs such as Classics & Ricks, they have kits that contain almost everything to adapt a non-RS car to an RS. There are a few things you also do and that is cut holes in the tailpan for turn lights and in the lower valance for front turn lights. The kits contain adaptors to mount the lights. You will also need an RS grill center section. The kit from Ricks lists for around $840.

if it's a 69 you will not have to worry about the front turn signal/parking lights, they are the same. not sure what you have to do to convert the standard fenders to rs. think i saw a cheapo conversion where you could use your standard fenders and make them very close to the rs, but not sure where. back should just be a tal light change out and add the back up lights to the bottom valance.

If it's a 67-8 car, there are adapter brackets available through most aftermarket sources. I did the same thing that you are considering since '68 RS fenders are non-existant in most cases but standard versions are still available from GM. The brackets are simple to put in. You will have to trim the standard fender slightly, but it is easy to do with tin snips. Line up the new bracket using the headlamp bucket and weld into place.

I converted my fenders in my rs to accept the rs lights. I bought two brackets which I think I got from Ricks First Gen. They require you to weld them in. I don't know if this is the best way to install them but what I did was install all the front grill and light components. Then I put in the brackets, so I would know how to place them, clamped them in and then spot welded them in. the only problem I had was I burned all the paint off the fenders around the area and had to do a spot job on the fenders. Classic Industries lists an "RS" conversion kit in their 1999 catalog, on page 335, for the standard 69 Camaro. It doesn't say anything about changing fenders. (Don't know what it is in this 69 kit that makes this work). Also, this kit is just for the front end. You have to buy extra conversion parts for the rear to have a total "RS". Price of front end kit alone is 1k! Hope this helps.
