: Steering doesn't self return to center

The steering in my 69 will not self-return to center from turning left. It works fine returning from turning right. I have replaced everything in the front end except the center link and the springs (all Moog stuff), including the pitman arm. I have had it aligned to get all the caster it will take (3.5°) and have 1/2° negative camber.
It has the fast powersteering box (about 2 turns lock-to-lock).

I have adjusted the lock nut on top of the box out and in several times. It doesn't change anything except how much play I have at center. The box was installed by the previous owner in the last couple of years. It was a "rebuilt" box, for what that's worth. He had converted from manual to power steering.

Any suggestions on what's causing this? It's pretty spooky when the steering wheel stays wherever you put it!

Do I need a new steering box?

Thanks

Try backing out the input shaft adjuster. Loosen the large stamped lock ring, insert a couple of punches in the holes in the adjuster and back it off just an eighth turn or so.

Thanks, David. I will try that before I replace the box. I think this can be done in the car?
