I'm installing new leaf springs and when I picked up the new springs they gave me new T-bolts. My old spring had U-bolts so I was wondering what is better to use? I noticed in D&R Classics they have a rear end bolt kit that has both t and u bolts. Thanks for any help, Mike

? when you say T-bolts were they for the leaf spring centers that keep the springs aligned or did they give you 8 of them 4 for each spring. if the later toss them and us the U bolt suggestions the others have stated.

Ok, now I'm a little confused. I'm about to put new multi's on my 69', and I was told I needed the U-bolts (2) and the T-bolts (4)?

no you only need the u bolts (4) but in the place where you would put the t bolts in drill them out a little (easy to do) and put 1/2 inch u bolts it is much stronger than the t bolts remember the axle mount is not stronge enough to hold the axle in place the mount is only a locator and the u bolts hold it to the spring. i saw a nova at the track twist the mounts off and destroy his q panels in the proces because he used all t bolts.. look at your nice q panels and deside what to use

John,

Go with 1/2" U-bolts like Touring72 states. You won't be sorry.

You may be able to pick them up at a local 4x4 shop or order them from Guldstrand (multi-leaf length only).

To bolt it in correctly, it takes 8 t-bolts. A lot of people use 4 t-bolts and 2 U-bolts. Like evryone else, I recommend using 4 U-bolts and pitching the T-bolts unless you are going for a points car.

My 69 has a 10bolt with traction bars of an unknown origin - there when I bought the car. No u-bolts, just hex head anodized bolts. It looks like the Ubolts would have to be slightly tappered and I would think that this would pinch the axle tubes. Any thoughts. I recently had to reweld up one of the spring perches as I ripped it loose. Really would like some ubolts to help keep things together.

No offense anyone, but...
I don't know why the same mistakes are repeated over and over.
I put home made traction bars on my 67 single leaf with no U bolts, just the T bolts, and tore the right hand side spring pad off the rear end housing and it dropped on the pavement on my way to school.
This was back in 1970!
I'll bet this will be still be happening twenty or thirty years from now.
You can get some U bolts from any fab shop, they fit with no trouble.
Slap em in there and be safe, the multi leaf cars had one per side from the factory.
Chrysler used to have some with teeth on the underside of the "U" that were really neat!

My 69 Z has 2 T-bolts and 1 U-bolt per side. Always wondered if that was correct... Thanks David!!
