: Wheels squeel intermittantly

I have a 68 with drum brakes all around. I had new shocks installed along with a bunch of other (much needed) front end suspension pieces.
Now (and I don't know if this was happening before) it seems as though one (or more) of the wheels is squeeling when I accellerate - I think the back wheels. By squeeling, I don't mean to say that something is "whining" like a wheel bearing or anything, I mean it sounds like I'm peeling out, even under light accelleration. (With my car's big cam and high rear gears, breaking traction off the line without power braking is next to impossible.)
The brakes seem to work fine, altough there is quite a bit of play in the pedal - it's "squishy." A mechanic told me I should replace the master cyllinder, so I did. But the problem still remains.
A couple of questions:
1) Could it be that one of my brakes is clamping down when I'm not applying the pedal?
2) Could it be my brake lines? Slave cyllinder? Brake shoes and drums? It seems that the brake shoes have plenty of meat left on them.
3) What else could this be?

Thanks!
Ryan

Also, I forgot to mention, I have these odd ball 265-55-R14 T/A tires. The right hand tire does have a bit of a bulge in it - the people at the tire store say this is due to poor tire design. Could this be causing my squeel?

i had a problem like that in my 69 but it was front tire squeel and it had more to do with alignment i later found. however the rear tires on ocassion would do what your saying but only after i had been driving for a while. that was only due to me leaving the e-brake on. i was so used to having and e-brake handle in-between seats that i would forget to release it some times. the only other thing i could think maybe for you would be to check to make sure that you e-brake is adjusted so that it's causing the brakes to be partially engaged. aside from that it sounds pretty strange but these guys on here know alot and i'm sure they'll think of something.

The only time i've run into a sqeeling wheel was in the front end when i had a tie rod go bad. This caused an alignment problem.
never heard a squeel from the rear unless it was me roasting the tires.

Check the emergency brake.

If it's not that, take off the rear wheels and check the play in your drums. See if they need adjustment.

If it's not that, check the alignment.

I'm thinking it could be a U-joint going bad? a wheel bearing race spinning ? or lack of oil to the wheel bearings ? Just a guess.
