I had a disc brake conversion done and had new front springs installed at the same time. It is a 69 small block. The problem is the front end is so out of alignment. When I turn the wheel and to get the driver's side wheel point straighht ahead, the passenger side is turn inward at least in inch or two. It is very noticeable. If I udo the steering arm on the passenger side an unthread the idler arm can I get it line up a little straight so I can drive the car to an alignment shop? Right now it drags the front tire. Was this caused by the new springs pushing the a frames farther apart? i also have alot more toe in than before.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dennis

Over the years, every time thecar was aligned, the mechanics were compensating for the worn front springs. After 30 years or of compensations, the alignment is bound to be way out of whack with new springs.

Why not just send it to an alignment shop and have them work their magic???

This is pretty helpful:

I don't think the idler or steering arms will have anything to do with the problem if I'm reading the post corectly. You state that the wheel is turned in and you have more toe in-I'm taking this to be one in the same.

At the very least you should make sure everything is properly bolted up. Center the steering wheel (pitmen arm pointing dead center) then turn the tie rod adjusting sleeves to get the toe in close. After that you should be able to drive to an alignment shop. Good luck!

I agree with Bret... Remove the tie rods and straighten the wheels so that they are pointing straight. Loosen the adjusting sleeves on both sides and screw em out/in until your close enough to push em back into the steering knuckle. Crank down the tie rod nuts and make a final adjustment on the sleeves until you feel there pretty even. That outta get you to the shop so it can be aligned properly. Don't worry about caster/camber to get you there.
Also remember to tighten the adjusting sleeve bolts before leaving the house

Good luck
