How hard is it to fit 1974 Camaro disk brakes to a 1968 Camaro. Will the spindles fit? I can get a whole sub fram for a 1974 with disk set up for $50. and want to put it on my 1968.

It would be very hard. The front suspension of second generation Camaro's is very different than first, and the spindle is completely different.

You're better off passing on that, and looking for a donor car where it would be a direct swap. 68 to 74 Novas, and their BOP counterparts (Olds Omega, etc.), 70 through 72 Monte Carlo, Chevelles through 72 (or is it 73?)and same year El Camino's. There are others out there, this isn't a comprehensive list.

DISC BRAKES THAT WILL FIT FIRST GEN CAMAROS
You can use the spindle, caliper, bracket, or rotor from:
Apollo 73-74
Buick Special 69-72
Camaro 69
Chevelle 69-72
Firebird 69
Grand Prix 69
Grand Prix 70-72
Monte Carlo 70-72
Nova 69-74
Olds F85 69-72
Omega 73-74
Sprint gmc /El Camino 71-72
Tempest 69-72
Ventura II 71-74
They must be disc brake equipped of course. I believe discs became standard in 1970.
Some of the cars listed have the caliper forward of the spindle. You must swap side for side placing the Caliper to the rear of the spindle on the Camaro. And use your Camaro steering arms.
I'm not shure about brake boosters working from every car listed. TheFirebird , Nova, El Camino, and Monte Carlo do for shure.

I've also deleted four piston year models from this list.

Are '70 to '72 Chevelle rotors all 12" diameter?

Will this Chevelle rotor, caliper bracket, plus a Chevelle caliper bolt onto my '69 Camaro disc brake spindle?

Can I assume that both of these parts are for a 12" rotor?
If so, seems like a good way to put 12" discs on the front.

NO, those are for the stock diameter same as you have now.

David,

Thank you, somehow I was thinking the Chevelles had 12" rotors. Looked like a good plan.
I guess I will have to go with CBB & Corvette caliper as detailed on your web site.

if a little fabbing isn't beyond your capabilities, you could get that newer subframe and put the whole thing under your car. from what i've read, it isn't THAT hard, and the geometry of the front suspension is better. and you could then easily swap on newer B body 12" front brakes with Camaro 1LE rotors.
it would also take cars of header clearance issues, since the steering box would be up front and out of the way.

Thanks Novaderrik. My subframe is freshly painted, the suspension is rebuilt. I am just exploring the best way to install 12" discs on the front.
I do have a pair of the drum hubs that will run on my disc spindles. The David Pozzi CBB option is probably the route that I will take.
