I just replaced the pressure line because it was leaking at the pump fitting. Well, it still is. Am I supposed to prep the threads with a tape or some type of compound? Thanks for your help.

I believe that the production 1969 Camaro pump had a MALE threaded fitting with a 45 degree flare face. The proper hose should have a female nut and a 45 degree flare tube.

All Camaro pumps from 1970 through 1979 had a female 5/8-18 UNF course thread with a 45 degree flare face. The proper hose should have a male 5/8-18 UNF nut with a 45 degree flared tube.

The mating flare faces make the hydraulic seal. The nuts should be tightened to 25/35 ft-lbs. It will not do any good to try and tape the threads, they are not meant as a seal.

When I read your response with regards to male and female I realized what I had done. I should proof read my posts before I hit enter. I am talking about the pressure line fitting at the gear box not the pump. Sorry for the confusion. Does this change anything?
Thanks,
Mitch

Try the loosen and re-tighten proccedure. It sometimes re-seats the fitting.
If that doesn't work, remove the line and carefully inspect the brass seat in the box for damage. Also check the threaded boss on the box for a crack.

I think the seat is replaceable but you'd have to get one from a rebuilder.

If it shows clean for you, try a dab of axle grease on the end of the tube where it mates to the box. A very tiny amount, right on the bellowed out flare itself, then tighten down again. This cured my auto tranny cooler line leak at the radiator that nothing else cured. Just an idea. smile.gif
