Just got my shocks in but the fronts have no shock rod cover the pretty light blue blistein color.Chis says they come like this looks weird.Rear ones have it kind of looks like a half of shock.can I buy this boot some where?I am probably going to have to change all 4 to have the color match but will do?

Its not required, so they are not supplied. The front shock have, basically, three seals and do not require boots. The real reason that they dont use them is because of clearence issues between the shock and the spring. That is Bilsteins 'Technical' answer, but you and I know that there is no clearence problem between the shock and the spring themselves.

smile.gif I have to agree with this. Mine are getting gloss black before they go in.

I couldn't get the Bilsteins so I just looked for black shocks that had decent street performance - VERY CHEAPLY! They'll look real nice with the rest of my suspension. Then, if they don't perform up to my way of serious daily driving or wear out too soon, I'll raid the piggy bank for Bilsteins.

I have a related question. I started to install my new Bilstein's on my 68. It looks as though the original bolts on the bottom of the shock will not be reusable. The bolt is too thick to fit throught the bottom shock eye. Does anyone know what type/size bolt to get since the bolts didn't come with the shocks? I'm a little concerned that the bolt will be too small for the shock mounts and there will be some free play in there. This is for the rear shocks BTW.

Greg,

I didn't see it in your signature but I assume you have mono's. The bolt should be a 10mm. Make sure you get a 10.8 grade bolt. This is equivelant to a grade 8 US bolt. Reference the below link for past info on this.

I'd drill the sleeve out before I went with metric bolts. A 7/16" bolt is 11.1 mm, not a whole lot more then the 10 mm it is now. Maybe I'm just a tad old fashion, but I just couldn't put metric hardware on a 1st gen. . .

(Yes, I know that the front shock upper mounts are probably metric, but not much can be done about it, cringing as I typed that).
