View Full Version : Rear suspension
CamaroNOTcamero Apr 16th, 02, 04:07 PM Guys, i'm changing over to a 12 bolt. i have a set of QA1 coil-over shocks and coils that i was planning on using, but here's my deal.
1st, i have to use the car alot, and it would be down for about a month or so if i fab. a 4-bar and coil-over mounts and such.
I also would like to run in a nastalgia drag class with the car, so modding it wouldnt be a good idea.
We are starting a street rod soon (possibly) and i could use the coil-overs on there, so i'm not sure what to do about that.
Anyways, i've already swapped to 3-leaf mono replacements, but they're peices of sh*t, and they're not stiff enough to keep the back of the car off my 28" tall tires.
What spring company would be best bet in getting a quality spring set? also i can remember a ways back in one of the magazines there being a gold 68" running 9's without tubs, it had a set of custom rear springs that seamed to work very well. anyone have a little info on these?

CamaroNOTcamero Apr 16th, 02, 04:50 PM great thanks, i'll check em out!
Ramonchis Apr 16th, 02, 07:52 PM Those springs on that gold camaro were Tri-city Launcher springs. I have had no luck finding a source for them as I am in the planning stagges (no $) of a 10 second 68 camaro, I am hard pressed on the sleeper look. This gold camaro ran a very low 10(a few tenths shy of 9)on stock rear suspension and no slapper bar or caltracs type device.
Any hoo if anyone knows how to contact this Company please post or email me.
CamaroNOTcamero Apr 17th, 02, 10:04 AM I'm also going for the look, and leaf springs+ caltracks and those without should cost about the same.
Could you add both or would it be a bit much.
If i go with 1" drop rear i need to take down the front 2" or so, or else it'll look pretty stupid, But i'm considering it.
NickSimcheck Apr 17th, 02, 10:46 AM (I'm young - means I have computer skills) I can't find the TriCity leafs, I've searched four about 3 hours and still not even a word about them. google.com, search.aol.com, ask.com, yahoo.com NO WHERE to be found! I think I'm going to find out who owns that camaro and ask him how he got them.

68sixspeed Apr 17th, 02, 01:46 PM If you are going to drag it some, I'd do a true 4 link-- 4 bars are more of a street rod thing, made to ride nice, but not to hook--- for the life of me I can't see why they are still used so much, I mean they have there place, but traction isn't one of them... the plus is floor clearance I guess, but I managed to fit a true 4 link under my back seat... Just my $.02 worth.
Silver69Camaro Apr 17th, 02, 02:40 PM I ordered myself a custom 3-leaf set, with a Chrysler style leaf arrangement. Handles the wheelhop really well. The spring rate is higher also.

CamaroNOTcamero Apr 17th, 02, 04:51 PM thanks old guy' http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif
i appreciate it though, seriously.
I'm going to just go with leafs, the 4-link is more of a pain then its worth, my deal is i want to drive to the track in reletive comfort maybe switch shocks and put on the slicks, then run high 11's and drive back.
I need the car basically everyday (a week or two without while doing stuff is ok) also, so i dont want to be designing a rear suspension instead of driving my car, i'll save that for the next car.
Thanks again guys.
pdq67 Apr 17th, 02, 05:04 PM Come on Dennis, come clean!!!
