i got the 69 single calibers and brackets on it.they lined up good.my problem now is no pedal.when i press the brake pedal i hear air that sounds like it is coming from around the rod that goes from the back of the pedal to the brake booster.would this keep me from having any brake pedal at all.and can i fix it or do i need a new one altogether.

I'm certainly no Mr. Pozzi, but what you describe sounds exactly like a problem I had. My problem WAS the brake booster... made the escaping air noise you mentioned. I bought a replacement from Auto Zone for under a hundred bucks and tadaaa! problem went away.

I didn't catch your first post, so I'm not sure what you're doing, but it sounds like a drum to disc conversion...yes? If this is the case did you go to the larger bore "disc brake" master cylinder? If you haven't, this might be a good time to do it since you've got to remove your master cylinder to replace the booster anyway, and the extra fluid volume is necessary to push that big single pistion caliper. And don't forget the special proportioning valve.

Speaking of which...Mr. Pozzi if you're out there... do you have any pictures of the stock disc brake proportioning system/plumbing on your site? For my conversion I took the system, including the proportioning valve, off a '73 Nova. It doesn't look like the drawing in my '69 Camaro assembly manual, but what's more distressing... it looks like there's some other piece that goes between the master cylinder and the proportioning valve...this is a part that I DON'T have. What is it? Where can I find one? Do I need it. I assume GM wouldn't engineer a part that wasn't needed, but maybe my '73 proportioning valve made 2 separate pieces obsolete?

I checked David's site. I obviously have the "combination valve" he shows there. Now I need mounting/plumbing instructions even more, since my assembly manual will clearly be of no help. Suggestions?

I used a combintion valve on my swap from a 74 nova. I didn't mount it with anything other than the brake lines holding it in place. I ran new lines from the m/c to the com. valve (I don't know if this had to be done, you might be able to bend the old lines to fit) and I had to put a different size fitting on the rear line. Other than that you run your lines like they were on your original set up. I wish I had a picture to show you but unfortunatly I don't.

lugnut,
You should have a high pedal even with a bad booster. It sounds like either you have not bled all the air out or have a bad master cyl.
The air noise MAY be from the master cyl using up all it's stroke, this pumps a lot of air and you can hear air rushing into the booster from under the dash.
Try bleeding at the master cyl.

The combination valve has one brake line at the rear end and two lines at the front end, the two lines go to the front brakes the single line goes to the rear brakes.

The inlet lines. The front goes into the side near where the front lines come out. Same for rear.
From the factory, the combination valve is allways supported, that would be the best mounting, I have put them on with just the brake lines holding them.

I'm glad to help out.
After answering a fiew questions on suspension and brakes, I started photographing parts I had on hand and posting them on my web page.
Over the last 30 years, I've collected a fiew pieces of brake and suspension parts.

Just about everything on my page has been the result of answering a question asked here.
