I'v removed the power steering box from my car. It is leaking from the front shaft where the rag joint attaches.

How hard is it to fix this leak? How do I go about getting it apart? I'v removed the snap ring but from there don't know what to do, nothing came apart.

Any diagrams or pictures would greatly help too.

THANKS!

I just went thru this a couple months ago. Just click the link below. You should have no problem after reading this. David Pozzi cleared it up for me. You can get the kit from AutoZone and it comes with diagram. Make sure you read the whole post because when I got the first kit it wasn't the right one.

Thanks RamJam. I guess the first thing would be to go get the kit.

Thanks for the info will come in handy.

Does anyone have any exploded views or diagrams of a steering box and all its internals?

Ken,

I just got done completely rebuilding a Monte SS box to put into my 67. It wasn't too bad of a job, although I won't know if I actually did it right until I get the car back together. Yours should be easy since you're just fixing the one seal.

There's a bunch of tech articles over on Team Chevelle.com. Apparently, there's a guy over there that use to work for GM designing power steering systems. His posts really helped me.

Here's a link to a diagram. Search around over there for more info...

You're welcome Ken. Like I said above if you get the kit that cost around $9 at A/Zone with I think 4 parts in it, it comes with an exploded view of the st/box.

There is a description on replacing the adjuster plug bearing and seals at the following sight:
