On tuesday, the first day I finally drove my 68 RS to school, I got home and suddenly the car fell to the right. So I hopped out and saw my fender wrangled up and the bottom of my tire was kicked out. I looked under the car a saw that my lower ball joint broke, so I got a new ball joint and bolted it in. But I was just reading CHP and on their Supernova project they had to press the lower ball joint in. Do you have to do this? I know to get the old ball joint out we needed to beat it out with a hammer but I tought taht we could just put the new one in and bolt it up. Thanks for the help.

How did you bolt it in? On my '68 they had to be pressed in, and I can't see any way that one could possibly be bolted in.

Kyle, It must be pressed in.
You need a manual! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

If you were able to slide the new balljoint into place, you probably need a new a-arm.
I think what he meant was that he "bolted" the balljoint to the spindle.

I would also be worried about why the balljoint failed to begin with. If the threaded part broke just below the nut, this is an indication that there is a problem with the fit of the taper on the ball joint and the taper of the hole in the spindle. If this is the case then the spindle should be replaced also. George

Allso welding the ball joint to the arm doesnt hurt from the safty stand point.
