I've got the template for the Guldstrand Mod, and I just drilled out the driver's side mount. I did exactly as the instructions said, I cut the holes out in the stock location, put the bolts through the template and the frame, and then center punched the new holes on the center cross marks of the template. My problem is that the bolt holes are too far apart, so the 7/16" bolts will not line up with the holes in the cross shaft. Also, they seem to be too far down. The back hole actually comes out just above the inward bend of the mount, and will not allow the cross shaft to sit flush. I've taken my caliper and measured the new holes in the mount, and the template, and the come out almost exact on both, yet the cross shaft has narrower holes. Is it possible that during reproduction, the template is slightly expanded due to photocopying? How can I fix the holes, if I drill them larger to give me more play with the bolts, I could get them to line up, but then I wouldn't be able to use the stock bolts with the ridges that keep them from turning. Any ideas before I screw up the passenger side with this template? Thanks!

Bing,
I hate to tell you but you're right about the paper template NOT being "true".
You measured the template and then the holes you drilled and of course they're going to match. Measure the holes of the shafts, center-to-center, and THAT'S what distance apart they should be.
You can try welding up the holes that you drilled to make them smaller, then re-drilling them at the correct distance apart. Get a piece of copper tubing about 3 or 4 inches long, then cut it length wise. Spread it apart and hammer it flat. Clamp it against one side of the hole you drilled, then fill in the hole with a welder. Do the same thing on the other side until the hole is filled. Then grind them smooth and re-drill.
The way I measured for the holes was NOT to use a template at all. I used the measurements and then transferred them to the mount free-hand by measuring from the original holes. I used a machinists rule and calipers until I was happy, then drilled. The shafts fit great the first time.
The rear hole WILL be close to the hump on the mount. That's normal. When doing an alignment, the shims at that bolt will have to be trimmed to fit down around the bolt properly. Not a big deal.
Good luck! It should be an easy fix.

Thanks HwyStar,
Unfortunately I had already had the subframe powdercoated, and I bought the template and catalog from Guldstrand Engineering to do the mod. I figured it would be easy, since I was just getting ready to bolt it back under the car, I'd do it while it was out. I followed the template and instructions furnished with it. Now I wish I would have just measured and done it myself. I don't know if I can weld the two holes and touch up with silver paint without damaging the rest of the paint. Thanks for the info.

I used the template on Davidpozzi's site, it was right on. Maybe print that out and compare?
