Is there truely a difference between the number of bolts that mount a manual box vs a power box?

I keep reading about a 4 bolt mounting. My manual box mounts with 3 bolts. Will I have to drill a hole in my sub frame to convert to power steering to accept the 4 bolt mounting??

No, 1st gen Camaro's only use 3 bolts for mounting.

GM used those saginaw boxes in alot of cars that's why it has 4 mount holes.

the fourth bolt hole sticks up above the frame rail. It is not used on an early Camaro. The extra hole was probably used on some other model.

You guys are correct! Some trucks used all four bolts or a different set of three bolts to mount.
