I am planning to install Wilwood front discs on a 68 camaro. The kit claims I can use disc or drum spindles with different spacers. I have 68 drum and 69 disc spindles. Which is the better choice? I heard the disc spindles move the front tires further out, could this be b.s.

the spindles themselves are the same forging, just that the top boss is machined down farther on the disc spindles. it has been said that a factory disc brake setup has a wider track width than a drum setup, but that is only with the factory rotors. dunno where an aftermarket setup will put things. my Nova has 73 pontiac Ventura disc brake spindles with 69 Nova drum brake hubs that have 94 Corvette 12" rotors and calipers mounted on them. aint hot rodding fun?

Use the drum spindles, there's one less spacer involved in the assembly. You can put the disc spindles on eBay and recoup some of your Wilwood money.

Welcome to team Camaro.
The Willwood kits found in the Summit catalog are very small brakes, probably not as good as stock discs.
Before installing, do a search of our archives using the search link, upper right of this page.
There have been reported brake rotor fractures from overheating and poor stopping.

FWIW, the drum hubs wheel mounting face's are like 9/16" or 3/4" or so deeper then the disc/hub's so this is probably where the difference in track width comes from if indeed GM didn't change the b/s on the disc rims vs the drum rims??

Check out David's great site b/c he pictures both of them side by side so you can really see what I am talking about, right David?

David, this is for a drag car only. Will keep eye on rotor wear and other items. Just want to know if drum spindles will bring in the front tires or other advantages?
