I just pu tin the Hotchkis rear leaf springs into my camaro and everyone on this board says to make sure to tighten the eye bolts after the car is on the ground.

My problem is that there isn't enough room to get the wrenhc in there to hold the head of teh bolt while I tighten it. Anyone have a similat problem to this? Shoud I just tighten them up while the car is in the air.

Thanks!

If you're refering to the front eyes I believe you must tighten it properly into the mounting cup and then bolt the mounting cup into place. The shackles (rears) were what I left loose until the car was on the ground when I did mine...

there isn't enough room for a socket, but you can use a boxed end wrench. If you are referring to not being able to crawl under the car, you can lift the car by using a jack under the rear differential, which will still keep the load on the springs making it basically the same as though the car were on the ground.

You might reach the nut but the head of the bolt will turn and I really don't think a wrench will fit on it. I may be wrong but I looked at it long and hard before doing it as described above.

Since I already have the front cup in can I take off the front, tighten the eye bolt then bolt the cup back up or will there be too much pressure to get teh cup back on since I already have the axle bolted up and all?

Thanks!

Just do what boodlefoof said and jack the car up by the rear end, this will keep the tension on the spring eye.

Is the spring eye already bolted in the cup? If not you'll never get it in and put the bolt through it with the cup mounted to the car. With the rear on jack stands and not connected to the springs it was very easy to hold the spring (eye bolt already tightened in the cup) in place and put the 3 bolts in that hold the cup. With the shackle end attached the shackle pivits forward and back (part of the reason you don't want it tightened it up) and you really don't have to wrestle with the front end of the spring and cup to bolt it up.

If everything is bolted up and you just need to tighten the front eye bolt the pressure of jacking the pumpkin may hold the bolt from turning when you tighten the nut if you can get the wrench on it as the others are suggesting...
