I have a 69 12 bolt Easton posi with 3.55 ring and pinion and was curious about the characteristics of a JL8 rearend. The axle housing has tapered ends where the backing plates mount to. Is this significant for a JL8 option or do all 12 bolt housings taper like this one. Check yours and let me know. Thanks

They all taper to the outside diameter of the outer bearing.

The taper is inboard of the backing plate bracket

I think they all taper. Supposedly the JL8 do not.
There is info here if you haven't seen it allready: http://www.camaro-untoldsecrets.com/
The main difference besides E brake cable brackets is the brake brackets. They have a corvette caliper bracket spacing.
