The locating bumps that locate the leaf springs to my cars rearend are almost completely worn off. What should I do now? Grind the remaining bump off and drill the hole where I can install a nut and bolt? Weld a bolt in the hole of the leaf spring? The leafs are not that old so buying new ones are out of the question.

Don't know what you can do b/c I gotta feeling that unless you remove them and pick up a "Hard-steel" or "cobalt" drill bit and then use a big shop drill press, you won't be able to drill a hole through them. I don't see anything wrong with drilling a hole through them but you never know that since they weren't made with holes, whether you will create stress-risers and they both will break at the new holes or not.

But I figure try it and see if you can drill the needed holes b/c springs ARE made with holes in them!!

And welding on them will flat ruin them b/c it will take the temper out of them.

You might call around and find a spring shop and just tell them your situation and see what they suggest short of replacing your springs???

Oh, just thought of this, you might bolt forward and aft clamps on them that will locate them by the ends of the mounting plates?? Just a thought.... Kinda like "stationary sliders" sorta thing....

Sorry, not much help here.

I've seen those new titanium coated drill bits chew through spring steel like it was balsa wood. Didn't believe it till I saw it.
