I just purchased a 67 SS-350 convertible and I want to install an aftermarket rear sway bar. It probably means resizing the front. Any suggestions for sizing both front and rear?

Why do you want to add a rear bar? Do a search and you will find a lot of information on why you do not especially for handling. The rear bar adds to much rear roll stiffness. The added stiffness increases oversteer. Your best bet is to get a 1 1/8 front bar and better rear springs. Drag may be a differnt story.

Brian. Thanks for the input. I used to own a 1940 Merc convertible. They came stock with a front bar and with transverse springs. It really rolled over in the corners so I put a sway bar in the rear and oversized the front. It made it handle like a new car. I was under the assumption that the same application would work on any car if sized correctly. I was looking at a performance review for the 67 Camaro and it had a picture of one in a tight corner and it was rolled over pretty good. I have done a search on google with weak results. Any suggestions?

David Pozzi on this site has a great web page about improving handling on 1st gen cars, he usually moderates the suspension section. See if you can find his link.

I have a 1" Addco front and 3/4" rear on my car as well as slapper-bars.

In the past before I worked my car over I knew it oversteered but to me, nothing a little throttle didn't handle!!

Now it's a totally restified car and I haven't had it on the road yet.

Hotchkiss on mine. Check E-bay, I bought mine direct from Hotchkiss on e-bay. If you don't see them listing one just e-mail. Mine was a blem, had powder coat were no there should have been none. Bought it and front springs delivered for $225.00

Funny thing how suspensions differ from make to make. We will not even mention the difference in the "modern" suspension of the 67 to your mentioned 40 Merc. Give this a read http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205. I second the look at David Pozzi's site http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/David_Pozzi/.

Like I said earlier a bigger front bar and higher spring rates will go a long way in improving your 67. Do not forget the importance of a good set of shocks. Also and of even more importance since you have a vert, is a set of frame connectors to help if body stiffness. I guess I am getting off of your original question, but all of this interelates to the overall package.

It seems your objective is to reduce body roll. Is this for perfomance or you just do not like the feeling of the car rolling on you? The peviously mentioned ideas will go a long way in reducing roll.
