I just replaced my wheel cylinder on the left rear drum brake. Now that i've finally got it all back together,i need to adjust it but here's the problem. There are no holes in the rear drum to insert the adjusting tool like there are on the front drums. How am i supposed to go about this?

thanks for your help,

Isn't there a 'knock-out' on the backing plate that you can punch out? I'll have to look at mine and see. I just assumed there was but I could be wrong. Most backing plates have one or two slotted knock-outs for this purpose.

I've run in to several vehicles that don't have a slot or knock-out for adjusting the rear brakes. The factory manual says to use a special jig/tool that measures the drum inside dia. and then adjust the shoes to that setting. The front have a slot because the drum is part of the hub and doesn't come off like the rear drum does.
I just installed the shoes and adjusted them out untill the drum just slid on and off with a little friction and then used the 'self-adjusters' to do the work when I was done by backing the car up and applying the brakes several times. Has always worked out just fine for me.

That's what I always do too John. The only time I ever play with the adjusters is when the drum won't come off. I hate that. But if there's no way to get to the adjusters with the drum on.... well, I've never run into that scenerio yet.

Quess the factory fiqured with the "little self-adjusting mechanic in the drum" there was no need to waste money on tooling for holes?
And yes - with well worn drums/lining I've had to fight like crazy to get the drums off to!
