I have a 69 with power steering and I would like to convert it over to manual steering. So I need a box and a pitman arm, but what other steering box will work or does it have to be a 69 camaro? Or does it even have to be a camaro box? Or does somebody have one that I are not going to use. I know that year one sells them but they have core charge on theirs. Any help would be appreciated

Why do you what to convert to manual? Because you what greater road feel and greater turning resistance for high speed stability? If so then you can get a power steering box with a 30-35 lbs. power valve. I have one from AGR and it feels nice and tight! It basically is a IROC box with all new Saginaw internals. Summit now carries them.

Shaun, I agree with Joseph, but if that's what you want to do?? I believe that all the first gen series boxes will interchange. There should also be others out there that will work, but you shouldn't have any problems locating a manual box from a first gen for next to nothing. Hell, I've been kicking one around my garage that's from a 68 SS car. I've almost tossed it a couple times.

Well the main reason is that I will be turning alot of RPM with this motor and I don't want to have to deal with the stupid power steering belt coming off. That is the main reason. I have looked at junk yards around here but they all tell me that they don't save anything that old. So I was hoping to find someone that had on.

Get an underdrive crank pulley and change to the Z/28 deep groove pulley set if you don't have them allready.

I ran 7000 rpm without underdrive with my 67 ps Camaro repeatedly with no problems.
The secret was getting them aligned properly.

Now I'm older and wiser and the deep groove setup is really the way to go. It's still available from gm too.
I had a custom crank pulley made with three deep grooves to fit the short water pump pulley setup. If anyone needs the specs E-mail me. I had an outfit in Texas make it in aluminum, hard black anodized.

I agree, get some deep groove and I think the conversion would be much more easy. http://www.camaros.net/forum/tongue.gif
